The backyard is not a priority

Built, but unpainted, the arbor has sat leaning sadly
at the entrance to the sideyard for two years or more,
lacking not only primer and paint, but also the climbing,
flowering vine that was supposed to adorn it, as well
as the secret garden it was supposed to lead to.
In those two years, at least two inflatable pools have been
purchased, blown up with all the accompanying head rushes and
frustrations, then wilted, lying wounded on the dying lawn,
gathering dirt and leaves in their flaccid folds, and finally
crumpled up and stuffed into the trash can, yielding the field
back to the plastic green turtle, who has seen more active duty
as a pool than the sand box it was intended to be. Now, only
their feet fit into it (it was
a squeeze
even three years ago).
