Arenal to Monte Verde

It took most of a day for us to travel from Arenal at the foot of the volcano, across Lake Arenal, and up bumpy mountain roads to Santa Elena, near the Monte Verde Cloud Forest. That evening, at the Swiss Hotel Miramontes, I measured the distance we had traveled: about 30 miles, as the Quetzal flies.
