In sickness and in health, they say. So, for
our 24th anniversary as a couple,
we spent the weekend at a state-of-the-art
facility, where the staff attended to our every need.
Our room had a balcony overlooking the
hills of wine country. The cuisine was
superb -- at least, the lemon gelatin dessert,
which was the only thing I had.
Too bad that I can't recall some of the most exciting
moments of our stay, but perhaps it's better off
that way. One of the best parts was having my own
personal nurse, who speaks the lingo and was able
to advocate on my behalf and interpret between
me and the specialized staff at this facility. With
her help, I got through pretty smoothly.
I left my gall bladder behind and
headed home to a new life with, I hope,
considerably less pain.
