Wow, this was a neat find... just a couple hours north of Costa Rica's main airport, a whole string of what Lonely Planet derisively dismissed as "McResorts" line a road with nighttime views of hot rocks and lava pouring down the north face of Arenal Volcano. (Unfortunately, they don't seem to show up on my digital camera.) But the McResort itself was great, with warm pools fed from the volcano-heated hot springs (some of these cascaded in a series of gradually cooling pools, another had a swim-up bar) as well as canopy tours, jungle hikes, and affordable spa treatments.
