For a school project, Ellie interviewed Mom & Dad about
their experiences as children during World War II. My dad
talked about the excitement of growing up in Long Beach,
where navy ships were launched daily and new bombers took
off from the McDonnell Douglas plant (now Long Beach Airport)
and headed off to the Pacific War.
Mom found some war rations books from the last year of the
war, with stickers that allowed them to get fuel, flour,
and other necessities.
(When I posted these on Facebook, Kathleen wrote: "The
Samoas box in the background is a nice touch."
