It was fun watching Alex's family spar with each other at Tony's 4th of July party. Good-natured insults flew back and forth as quickly as laughs. One afternoon like this, I told his mother, would finish off my family for a year. Later, she made some passing slight to Alex, who narrowed his eyes at her and said, "Oh, you're just still mad because someone dropped a house on your sister."
