The Samburu Sopa Lodge amazes us, with its pole beams, organically shaped doorways, high thatched roofs, open-air plan. Like Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, but in the real place. We drop our bags in our cottage and head out for our first game drive.
Later, we head back to the lodge for lunch. We considered swimming in the murky pool, but as we left lunch we saw guys fishing a dead jackrabbit out of it. Stiff. How long had it been down there, just out of sight in the murk? Ellie lost her interest in a swim. The guy walking out into the field behind the lodge holding the rabbits legs, where the baboons frolick in afternoons. Nothing is wasted.
