High on the Second Ridge
Ft. Ross Road

It took an hour or more to get out there -- up the
gently curving road along Austin Creek to Cazadero,
then onward over the not-so-gently curving road towards
Fort Ross, and finally up an aggressively curving and
angular road to a peak on the second ridge, with views
of the first ridge to the West -- and in gaps between the
hills, the fog banks resting on the Pacific. And would you
believe that atop the hill, when we listened for the
sound of wind and silence, we heard ... some jackass running
his leaf blower.
