Joel and Nancy pick us up at the Ibis at 9, and we drive out to the baby elephant rescue place. There were families there from all over the world, standing on the wet red dirt of Kenya, pressing up against the roped perimeter to see the baby elephant parade.

They bring in the first eight and feed them milk out of big baby bottles with big red nipples. A woman asks what the milk is made from. The guide says it's a mix of powdered formula and water, because "it's hard to milk a wild elephant."
