Yuyuan Garden

Shanghai
April 11, 2004

< < previous | next > >

This is a calm little respite in the heart of Shanghai, a 400-year-old garden built by a son to please his parents in their old age. (Don't get your hopes up, Mom & Dad.) We spotted it on the tourist map and so made our way down along the Bund on Sunday morning and into the streets to find it. It's now surrounded by a new, but traditionally styled, tourist mall, complete with Sushi bar and Starbucks. (And yes, I am trying to make just about every page on China include a reference to Starbucks.)
