KOA Kampground
Willits

As we tumbled down the coastal range on the highway
from Fort Bragg to Willits,
we stumbled upon something that looked like a cross between
a carnival and a campground, a KOA that had been carefully
and almost insidiously tailored to appeal to kids. If the petting
zoo, playground, swimming pool and fishing pond didn't draw
you in, then maybe the hayride, ice cream social or hula-hoop & limbo
contests would. Picture the parent who could stop in to inquire
and then endure the protests from kids in the car if he
decided against it. We succumbed, and nearly won the hula-hoop
contest.
