We abandoned our attempt to go skiing at Mountain High when
we saw the sad look in the parking attendant's eyes which meant,
"oh you poor fools." We fighting with everyone else in Los Angeles
for a space in the dry parking lot, just for a chance to slide down
the meager tongues of machine snow sprayed onto otherwise brown and
dry runs.
So we turned around and headed back down the mountain, stopping
first for the world-class chicken-fried steak at little cafe in
Wrightwood. Down in the Cajon Pass, we pulled off the road and
spent an hour scampering around the Mormon Rocks, before heading
over to Redlands and the Hangar 24 brewery out at the airport.
After that, we stopped in to see one of the Oscar contenders,
The Big Short, and wrapped up the evening at the diner
in Empire Bowl, which some guys at Hangar 24 had recommended,
BoomShakaLaka. It took about an hour, but we didn't mind the
wait and the burger and fries were pretty great.
