This was why I had come down the Keys, to do a little
snorkeling. Our skipper Dave took three of us out a few
miles off shore to a place where the waves were breaking
over a reef. As I pulled on my fins, he told us to look for
a pre-Civil War ship's cannon, sunk in the midst of one of
the coral domes. It took me nearly an hour, but I eventually
found myself staring right at it for a few moments before I realized what it
was, encrusted in coral. (That's it in the 2nd photo.)
