We couldn't stay in town for the parade this year, so we made our way up to Pasadena a few days early to see the floats as they were being decorated. A family we met in line at the Rosemont Pavilion -- a good place to see the volunteers gluing petals and seeds onto the forms -- told us that they had both been floral designers years before. This, they said, was the Olympics of floral design.
